In public places, shops, malls, companies and institutions, digital LCD panels presenting advertising content and/or information are becoming more and more pervasive. This new medium is known as Digital Signage and is mainly used in Marketing, Advertising and Corporate TV.

There are two types of Digital Signage systems:

  • Traditional Digital Signage (passive);
  • Smart Digital Signage;


Traditional Digital Signage uses passive terminals (usually TVs), which broadcast a predetermined program, sent from a central station or locally stored on a support (DVD or memory card) that cannot be easily changed.

 

Smart Digital Signage requires the use of "smart" terminals (i.e., screens or kiosks with a small embedded computer) and supports interaction with the public and the transmition of information in both directions. I.e., not only informative/advertising content can change and react to external stimuli, but it is also possible to measure audiences (ratings) and analyze consumer behavior.
