In out-of-home (OOH) environments, this solution can count how many people look at an exact point, in order to:

  • obtain real-time audience ratings of advertising content (e.g., Digital Signage screens and billboards);
  • evaluate how a particular product displayed in a commercial space catches people's attention: how often and for how long.

In spite of being simple, these metrics are exceptionally valuable to policy makers and Marketing/Communication managers, who can use them to design more assertive and effective communication strategies.

Other technologies are currently available that allow, through face detection, to determine how many people are looking at a particular target. But, as these technologies are mostly based on 2D (flat) imaging, it is only possible to accurately count faces relatively close to the camera.

Other, more accurate, technologies can find the direction of a viewer's gaze, but they require the use of special glasses and therefore can only be used in controlled studies with volunteers.

The technology developed by Outmind uses a network of infra-red cameras and 3D imaging to cover a broader space and achieve significantly higher accuracy and range.
